We moved! Hurray! We left the city that we both loved so dearly to buy a house in the burbs. The timing was tough, because we probably could have stayed in our condo until we were blessed with another baby, but with the market as is, we figured we could probably get more house than we would be able to at any other time. So, it's done. Condo sold and house bought.
We're ten minutes from my childhood home. In some ways, it's great - my parents are close by, I'm familiar with where everything is, the schools are great. In other ways - we miss our old friends and neighbors, Justin's commute is significantly longer and more challenging (he's taking Metra and we're still a one car family), and we're not used to the rather vanilla restaurant and entertainment options. But, it's what is best for Lily right now and that's what's most important.
For posterity sake, I'll memorialize a typical day:
- 5:00 - Justin wakes up and feeds animals. Feeds animals, makes coffee, packs his lunch.
- 5:30 - Lily wakes up on her own or I wake her up. Diaper change, milk and get her coat on.
- 5:50 - out the door to drive Justin to the train.
- 6:00 - wave by to Daddy and back home we go for playtime.
- 7:00 - breakfast and more playtime.
- 8:30 - nap for Lily. Relax for mom - treadmill, read, blog (hopefully), tv.
- 10:00 - up, dress, snack, mom showers.
- 11:00 - Mondays we're at the library. Tuesday or Thursday we're with playgroup doing something. Wednesday or Friday we're visiting someone. Whichever day it is, we're doing SOMETHING. Gotta get out of the house. Lunch somewhere in there, no matter where we are, usually around 12:30
- 3:00 - back home for nap.
- 3:45 - snack
- 4:00 - playtime.
- 5:30 - leave to pick up Dad from the train
- 6:00 - dinner for Lily, dad gives her a bath and puts her down by 7:00.
- 7:00 - Justin and I make dinner, hang out, watch tv
- 10:00 - bedtime and get ready to do it all over again.
When did life get so monotonous? :) It's a good monotony though.
Other things of interest - we've found a church that we really enjoy in Glen Ellyn. Lily really loves the nursery, Justin and I really enjoy the message - it's a very socially liberal church and the fact that it aligns with our politics is very important. The church focuses a ton of outreach in the community and I've become involved with the PADS homeless shelter because of it, volunteering there on Sunday nights for the dinner shift. I've also been asked to be work on the committee that cooks for various church functions. My first small event is next week and our major event of the year is coming up in April. I'm responsible for one passed appetizer, 200 pieces, and am hoping to make a good impression.
